The authorization was granted by Judge Alexander de Moraes, the investigating judge in the Supreme Court of the process in which the former president was convicted.

The surgery to correct the two inguinal hernias should last three to four hours and will keep Bolsonaro hospitalized in the hospital for five to seven daysdepending on its evolution.

Bolsonaro has been suffering from several health problems for months, including vomiting, dizziness and hiccups, disorders resulting from the stab wound that a mentally ill person inflicted on him during the 2018 election campaign.

In accordance with what was stipulated by the magistrate, during his stay in the hospital The former head of state may only be accompanied by his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro. and other visits can only be carried out with judicial permission.

Two of his sons, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro, had also requested to accompany their father during his hospitalization.

The judge also prohibited the entry of computers, mobile phones or any electronic equipment into the former president’s room.

Bolsonaro was convicted of having led a plot to try to stay in power after losing the 2022 electionsin which the progressive Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was the winner.

In addition to the conviction, the former head of state (2019-2022) is disqualified from contesting elections until 2060.

Last week the Brazilian Parliament approved a law that benefits him with a significant reduction in his sentence, but Lula has already announced that he will veto it.
